My name is David Maat and I am the upper grade art teacher at Linden Hall. I am originally from Ottawa, Canada. I attended the University of Ottawa where I graduated magna cum laude in 2002 with a Bachelor of Visual Arts. I moved to Onomichi, Japan in 2008 as part of the Japanese government’s JET program. I worked as an ALT for 4 years before moving to Tokyo where I worked for the Yokohama branch of Interac, again as an ALT to various elementary schools. In 2014 I moved to Cardiff, Wales to study for my PGCE. I returned to Tokyo the following year, where I taught at a small private elementary school before moving to Fukuoka to teach English, math, and art. I returned to Canada after a long absence in 2019. While in Canada I taught several art courses at The Ottawa School of Art and worked for the city of Ottawa teaching an afterschool art program. I came back to Linden Hall in 2022, where I am now in my 17th year of teaching and I couldn’t enjoy more.
