Grade 6, in their continuing exploration of tone and value, creating, reduction drawing. First, they build up the paper with charcoal and then erased away areas to create the highlights. This is trickier than it sounds because you apply just the right amount of pressure to create the different tones. Also, you cannot get back to pure white, so students used some chalk as well to create the highlights.

6年生は、トーン（明暗）とバリュー（濃淡）の学習の一環として、Reduction Drawing（減法デッサン） に挑戦しました。
この技法では、まず紙全体にチャコールをのせて暗い面をつくり、そこから消しゴムで明るい部分を“描き出す”ようにしてハイライトを表現します。
一見シンプルに見えますが、実際には力加減によって微妙なトーンを作り分ける必要があり、集中力と観察力が求められる高度な表現方法です。また、完全な白には戻せないため、仕上げにはチョークも使いながら、光の表情を丁寧に描き出しました。
子どもたちは試行錯誤しながらも、光と影の美しいコントラストを生み出し、それぞれの個性が光る作品に仕上げていました。
